Changing your Microsoft Outlook XP or 2003 to use "go.281.com" and Outgoing mail server (SMTP) Authentication

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.  Left Click "Hide" if you have an error message.
  2. Once Outlook is open and there are no error messages or other dialog boxes open, Left Click the Tools Menu.  Left Click E-mail Accounts.
  3. This will open the window pictured below:

  1. Chose "View or change existing e-mail accounts" as shown above.  Left Click Next> button.
  2. This will open the E-mail Accounts window as shown here:

  1. Left Click on the Name of an account to chose one to edit (Support2 is chosen above).  Left Click the Change... button on the right side.

  1. Confirm your information here.  NOTHING SHOULD CHANGE IN USER INFORMATION OR LOGON INFORMATION!  Your E-mail address has not changed.  The @281.bz included in your instructions is only for dialing and does not affect E-mail.
  2. CHANGE the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to read:  go.281.com as shown in above picture.
  3. Left Click the "More Settings..." button at the bottom right of the above picture.  You will now see:

  1. Left Click the Outgoing Server tab.  NOTE:  The Mail Account (Support2 here) is just a name within Outlook for this E-mail account.

  1. Add a check in the box in front of "My server (SMTP) requires authentication".  Leave dot in front of "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" as shown above.  See below "My server requires authentications" instructions to setup go.281.com on your NON-@281.com E-mail address to send mail through your 281 Communications dialup account from a NON-@281.com E-mail address.
  2. Left Click the Advanced tab.  You will now see:

  1. Slide the "Server Timeouts" bar to the Right so that the time reads "10 minutes" as shown above.
  2. Left Click OK button
  3. Repeat steps 6 through 13 for all other 281.com accounts listed in the Internet Accounts windows (second picture above).  See "My server requires authentication" instructions below for using go.281.com to send E-mail with your E-mail account @anotherISP or @corporate for your business.

"My server requires authentication" instructions

Using go.281.com with another E-mail address NOT @281.com

NOTE:  For this example above, the Account name support is the "username" for the E-mail address S U P P O R T 2@ 2 8 1 . C O M

NOTE:  The asterisks in Password are your password for your @281.com E-mail with "username" used in Account name.
