Changing your OUTLOOK EXPRESS to use "go.281.com" and Outgoing mail server (SMTP) Authentication

  1. Open Outlook Express.  Left Click "Hide" if you have an error message.  Refer to new customer Microsoft Outlook Express instructions if the wizard comes up--i.e. you do not already have an @281.com E-mail address configured.
  2. Once Outlook Express is open and there are no error messages or other dialog boxes open, Left Click the Tools Menu.  Left Click Accounts.
  3. This will open the Internet Accounts Window.  Left Click the "Mail" tab so that it looks like this:

  1. Double Left Click the Account listed. (support here)  Alternatively you may Left Click the account once to highlight, and Left Click the Properties button to the right.
  2. This will open the Account properties as shown here:

  1. Confirm your information here.  NOTHING SHOULD CHANGE!  Your E-mail address has not changed.  The @281.bz included in your instructions is only for dialing and does not affect E-mail.
  2. Left Click the "Servers" tab at the top of the above picture.  You will now see:

  1. As shown above, change the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" server - go.281.com - Add a check in box in front of "My server requires authentication".  DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE.  DO NOT CLICK Settings... button!  If you have changed these settings, refer to "My server requires authentication" instructions at the end of these instructions.
  2. Left Click the Advanced tab.  You will now see:

  1. Slide the "Server Timeouts" bar to the Right so that the time reads "5 minutes" as shown above.
  2. Left Click OK button
  3. Repeat steps 4 through 11 for all other 281.com accounts listed in the Internet Accounts windows (first picture above).  See "My server requires authentication" instructions below for using go.281.com to send E-mail with your E-mail account @anotherISP or @corporate for your business.

"My server requires authentication" instructions

Using go.281.com with another E-mail address NOT @281.com

NOTE:  For this example above, the Account name support is the "username" for the E-mail address S U P P O R T @ 2 8 1 . C O M

NOTE:  The dots in Password are your password for your @281.com E-mail with "username" used in Account name.
