OUTLOOK EXPRESS


Username refers to E-Mail account username. DO NOT USE YOUR DIAL-UP USERNAME !!
To configure Microsoft Outlook Express to send and receive email:
  • Double click on the Microsoft Outlook Express icon.
  • In the Microsoft Outlook Express program, click on "Tools" then "Accounts...".
  • This will open up an Internet Accounts window.



  • Click on the Add button and choose Mail....
  • This will open up the Internet Connection Wizard.
  • In the Your Name window, type in your name of choice in the Display name: field and click on Next.



  • In the Internet E-mail Address window, type in your email address in the E-mail address: field and click on Next. This will be username@281.com.



  • In the E-mail Server Names window, choose POP3 from the drop down menu at the top and type in tim.281.com in the Incoming mail (POP3) server: and smtp.281.com (Broadband customers) or go.281.com (dialup customers) for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server fields and click on Next.



  • In the Internet Mail Logon window, click on Log on using:, and type in your username in the POP account name: field and type in the username's corresponding password in the Password: field and click on Next.



  • In the Friendly Name window, type in your name of choice in the Internet mail account name: field and click on Next.



  • In the Choose Connection Type window, click on Connect using my phone line and click on the Next button.



  • In second to last window, click on 281.com so that it is highlighted, then click next.
  • In the last window, click on the Finish button to save your settings.
  • Click tools in Outlook Express, then choose Accounts.
  • Click the mail tab.  Highlight your account and click Properties button on the right.
  • Click the Servers tab.  Add a check in front of "My Server Requires Authentication" if you are using go.281.com for your SMTP server.
  • Click on the Close button in the Internet Accounts window and to check for messages, click on the Send and Receive button at the top.
