Windows 95 / 98 - DialUp Configuration Procedure
(Make sure you have your Windows' 95 system CD or diskettes before starting if installation of Internet components are necessary under Part 2)
Part 1 - Configuration Dial-Up Networking
1. Double click the My Computer icon, then double on the Dial-Up Networking icon. If you do not have a Dial-Up Networking icon, proceed to part 2 for installation instructions. 2. Double click the Make New Connection icon.
a. Enter 281.COM for the computer name. b. Select the Configure button.
1. Under the General tab, choose the maximum speed of your modem.
- Modem speed : 14.4 = 19200, 28.8 = 38400, 33.6 = 33,600, 56 = 57600
(Do not select Only Connect at this Speed)
2. Press the OK button.
c. Press the Next button.
d. Enter the dial-up phone number for your area..
e. Press the Next button and then the Finish
button.
(A 281.COM icon will be created in your Dial-Up Networking folder)
2. It is the customer's responsibility to determine if the dial-up number is a local or long distance call. If you are unsure, please contact your telephone service provider.
3. Highlight the 281.COM icon and click on the right mouse button.
a. Select Properties.
b. In the General window, uncheck Use country code
and area code.
c. In the Telephone number field, type in the
281 Communications phone number along with the area code if necessary in
your area.
d. Click on the Server Type button.
1. Type of Dial-Up Server should begin with "PPP".
(Make sure that only the TCP/IP is selected in this window)
e. Select the TCP/IP settings button.
1. Make sure Server assigned IP address is selected.
2. Select Server assigned name server addresses.
3. Make sure to only select Use default gateway on remote network at the bottom.
4. Press the OK button 3 times.
Part 2 - Installing Internet Components --Skip to Part 3 if these are already on your computer--
TCP/IP and Dial-Up
Adapter
1. Double click the My Computer icon, then double click the Control
Panel icon.
2. In the Control Panel window, double click the Network icon.
3. If Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP are not installed, follow the next steps:
a. Press the Add button.
b. Highlight Adapter and press the Add button.
c. On the left hand side, scroll down and highlight Microsoft.
1. On the right hand side, highlight Dial-Up Adapter.
2. Press the OK button.
d. Press the Add button.
e. Highlight Protocol and press the Add button.
f. On the left hand side, scroll down and highlight Microsoft.
1. On the right hand side, highlight TCP/IP.
2. Press the OK button.
g. Select the OK button.
h. Insert your Windows '95 System CD ROM or diskette is operating.
1. If asked, choose the appropriate drive that the system CD ROM or
diskette is operating.
i. Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so.
Dial-Up Networking
1. Double click the My Computer icon, then double click
the Control Panel icon.
2. In the Control Panel window, double click the
Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. In Add/Remove Programs click the Windows
Setup tab.
4. In Windows Setup click the word
Communications do that it is highlighted (DO
NOT CLICK THE CHECK BOX).
5. Once highlighted, click the Details button to
the right.
6. Place a check in front of Dial-Up Networking.
(Your computer should now be configured to connect to the Internet)
Part 3 - Connecting to the Internet
1. Double click the My Computer icon, then double click on the
Dial-Up Networking icon.
2. In the Dial-Up Networking window, double click on the 281
Communications icon.
a. Select the Connect button (you don't need to type in any
username or password).
b. At the Post-Dial Terminal Screen:
1. Enter your username at Login prompt. NOTE: Most
usernames end with "@281.bz"
2. Enter password at Password prompt (you will not see the
password) and press Enter.
c. After connection is made, use your Internet Software (i.e. Internet
Explorer)
3. To access "Inside Highland Lakes." Once your browser is open, click on the address or location line and type in:
